Started in 1999, the "musical project" known as Celldweller is actually a Detroit-based artist by the name of Klayton. A native of New York City, the artist has created a truly original sound and serves as the sole performer, remixer, programmer, producer and songwriter on all of the albums and recordings. Weaving together an impressive mix of genres and sounds, the music is described as metal, orchestral, dubstep, electronic and more. Many recordings appear in films and even video games, taking seven awards in the 2004 Just Plain Folks Music awards. Self-described as "personifying the sound of the iPod generation", the music is constantly evolving and also part of Klayton's live, performance art.

This song seems to be a representation of someone going through quarrels of trust with someone else that they have almost always cared for, like a family member or lover. Questioning if what they ever had was real to begin with, as the other seems to be taking advantage of the one singing.
