Eek-A-Mouse is the stage name of Ripton Joseph Hylton, a reggae musician born on November 19, 1957 in Kingston, Jamaica. He is was one of the earliest performers to known for the “singjay” style, a Jamaican reggae technique involving toasting, singing and vocal embellishments. Eek-A-Mouse began recording in 1979 and quickly had a hit with the song “Once a Virgin.” His debut album, Bubble Up Yu Hip, came out the following year. His 1988 release Eek-A-Nomics included the single “The Freak” and helped bring Eek-A-Mouse to the attention of international audiences. In 2013, he released the compilation album Reggae Anthology: Eek-Ology.
