Lana Del Rey is an American singer and songwriter. Her music is based in baroque pop, rock and trip hop. Her major label debut Born to Die (2012) hit the second place on the US Billboard chart, and was the fifth highest-selling album of the year. Del Rey often utilises a lower singing voice than many contemporary female artists, and her lyrics are frequently based around dark topics. Her third LP Ultraviolence (2014) is certified Gold and became her first number one album in the US. Del Rey's fourth album Honeymoon (2015) didn't reach the same heights as her previous release, although it still hit the second spot on the US Billboard chart.

personally, this reminds me of my mother- she's too busy being this 'perfect' woman and forgets about her kids whilst trying to keep everything in order, when my step-dad comes home, she puts on her makeup and dresses, and perfumes. cooks and cleans for him whilst he lounges, her kids never get attention 'there are never toys that's scattered everywhere', she's always working hard for him, but sadly. He got another wife. the other woman will never have his love to keep. what confuses me is- why is she still with him?

I really just think this song is an anthem on depression. I think she's is saying that she tried and tried to be happy, please others, get labels to sign her, etc. and eventually she gets to the point where she feels dead and it's all for nothing. And I think the line "let there be light" is referring to a supernatural light, a greater calling that she can't find in materialistic things.
