90s US grunge band
Nirvana established itself as part of Seattle’s grunge scene back in 1987. More than just another rock band, frontman and lead vocalist and guitarist Kurt Cobain made an impressive collaboration with Dave Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic. Despite producing only three full-length studio albums in their embryonic seven-year career, Nirvana has now come to be regarded as one of the most important and influential rock bands of the modern era. Hits like "Smells Like Teen Spirit” from the massive album Nevermind (1991).placed them at the pulse of a generation only for their career to be cut short by the tragic suicide of Cobain.
Thoughts on Songs with Nirvana
Choices in life, who are your friends, who are not, who are your enemies, who is your family, who are you, what is your job, what is your career, if any. Blend all that and the outcome is a negative and unpleasant combination, you get written down lyrics such as these. And what does "Something in the way" stand for" ? Simply "I've just realized all this crap".
The contradiction of this song is that, n every verse Cobain's mocking himself and his pathetic life (in a humorous tone of course) while in the chorus he is easily stating "he's loving himself better than us" and "he's on a plain and can't complain". I always thought that, despite many people think of Nirvana as an overstimated band, they are deeply underestimated in the lyrics department.
I'm going to quote a line from Trainspotting, for the interpretetion of this song "...walking up and not knowing who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning". They are the exact words, in the exact order, producing the exact meaning, of what is the essence of Nirvana's "Stay Away".
