Times demand it, as the first words suggest, when you must "convice you're not a ghost or a stranger" well I can see many sceneries of that kind, take for example an older couple who has become alienated over the years, where you have to conquer once more the other party's admiration, soul, love..
Drug abuse (possibly heroin) as the core of someone's existance and the only pleasure life has to offer him, stands in a symbolic and literal way as well. In a literal, well, let's face it, people like that exist all around us, and in a symbolic, in way that someone's addiction (could be a lover? some other mental intoxication of any kind) is what keep him going
A song about running away. Althought I reckon this song's bitter closure: Trying to run away from the misery of this life, towards the misery of a new life, perhaps heavier. Beautiful words are chosen, to describe glimpses of that past life, what was decided to be left behind, in the alter of "moving on"....
Not only talking on roughly on the Entertainment industry and its solid, unhuman role in our lives, also hitting down to the core the opposite point of view: The impact we let the Entertainment industry perfom in our lives, especially those who are part of it.
A bitter cry, a statement about today youth's identity. That what we are ladies and gentlemen. Lost between failures and achievents with our big drawback being that we don't have a solid aim, unsure of where we are heading and to from where we're coming from. Just thrown out there and try not to sink.
I consider this a critism in general; this is mainly directed to today's society however it can also be comprehended for us, not in terms of society, but from a human-centric perspective. The lies, the goals archieved, the goals missed... "Neutrality means that you don't care" Rise Against say, and is there anyone of you who can't throw that to a friend, as much to your government?
Witty and to point, Rise Against is tearing down the regular cliches like "you have to leave the moment" when harsh reality strikes. Sure, every day can hold a miracle, however every day can hold a possible bad decision and "live it to the fullest" motto, can easily be turned to "not thinking clearly and throughout enough".
I'm in love with this song. Rise Against has always been a from the heart lyrically rebellious band. Anyone can see himself between these lyrics. Setbacks and compromise, all the drawbacks of all our lives gathered here, placed in beautiful decoration, to remind us that this wasn't the life we we dreaming in our youth.
