George Ryan Bingham (born March 31, 1981 in Hobbs, New Mexico) is an American folk rock/Americana singer/songwriter. In addition to his solo albums, Bingham recorded two albums as Ryan Bingham & The Dead Horses. Bingham dropped out of school at 17 and was introduced to rodeo bull riding. He learned the emotional aspect of pain early in life, when shuttling between small towns and family members in the hardscrabble ranching communities of West Texas and Hobbs, New Mexico -- and became well-acquainted with the physical facets of pain during his years on the Southwestern rodeo circuit.

It is difficult for me to say what this song is supposed to be about but here is my interpretation. It sounds like someone that has just given up on life, possibly suicidal, living in dangerous situations most likely self medicating with some serious drugs. At the point where the trigger is pulled, they have hit rock bottom, nothing left to give, no hope, no faith, just hopeless and dead inside. Something, seems to trigger that faint smoldering ember of hope, i am guessing a woman. He is so lost in that darkness, pleading for her to give him something real to believe in, but is jaded a bit from the life he has lived that he is fighting his own inner demons to actually feel something he no longer believes in, or is at least scared to believe in because after a life of so many terrible things, it is almost scarier to have something real that you could lose.
