Santigold is the stage name of American singer and producer Santi White, born on September 25, 1976 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She released her debut album Santogold in 2008, and followed that with Master of My Make-Believe in 2012. Before going solo, White was a singer in the Philidelphia punk band Stiffed, which released albums in 2003 and 2005. Her first solo singles “Creator” and “L.E.S. Artistes” came in 2007. The second song came in second place in Rolling Stone’s Singles of the Year list. White has mezzo-soprano voice, and her style is frequently compared to M.I.A.
The first song I heard of her is this and I fell in love instantly. Amazing groove and voice. Simple rhymes but full of truth. A glimpse at how life in Brooklyn goes and at her own life there. A nice statement to all those that never believed in her and her stunning talent.
Singing because of your passion to sing, not caring about whether your voice will be heard or not, whether your name is gonna be displayed on charts or not and not in order to become famous. Well that's rare. Santigold always knows how to make the difference out there, many many reasons to love her and her music.
Nowadays no matter what you want to achieve is very hard to make your voice be heard and your talent to shine. People get on the top not because they love something and they do it good but because of money and acquaintances they happen to have. That's a song not for this kind of people but for those struggling alone to get somewhere and make it happen.
