Biography
The English rock group The Smiths came together in Manchester in 1982. Its members were lead singer Morrissey, Johnny Marr on guitar, Andy Rourke on bass and Mike Joyce on drums. The Smiths are considered among the most important groups to emerge from Britain in the 1980s and have a sound that uses elements from 1960s rock and contemporary dance pop. The group had four studio albums from 1984 to 1987, but by the time the last album, Strangeways Here We Come, was released, the band had already broken up. After the split, band members continuned to work in music as either solo artists or as members of other groups.
