The Weeknd’s sensual track “Earned It” was featured in the blockbuster smash hit Fifty Shades of Grey. The song features a slow, pounding beat, very rhythmic, something the ladies will no doubt swing their hips and twirl their hair to. The lyrics hint towards the very same themes from the Fifty Shades of Grey books and movie. Subtle hints towards BDSM and S&M are trickled throughout the lyrics, without being too in your face.

Put this on repeat!

Out of context from the Fifty Shades of Grey fare, the song has a much different feel to it. One can feel hints of past lovers rekindling a relationship, or finding true love with a potential new lover. To overcome loneliness and a shoddy dating past, to put bad relationships in the past and move forward, on to a more mutually beneficial and satisfying relationship. The song alludes to finding that one special girl who actually brightens your day, and supplements your life as opposed to latching on to it unhealthily, expecting too much, or being unfaithful be it physically or emotionally. Some may also deduce a sort of affair vibe from the song. So I love when you call unexpected / Cause I hate when the moments expected These sound like words that would be shared between an unfaithful woman and man.
