A sinner's prayer is a term that refers to renewing your relationship with God because you feel as if you have a lot of sin in your life. He's waiting, praying for God to reach out to him and renew his faith. God doesn't find you when you struggle, He finds you when you pray. The first verse he talks about the world that God built with His own two hands and the second verse he talks about how he wants God to give him a sign to let him know that He is close. He says he never thought he'd live this this life without God's guiding light, meaning he never thought he would lose faith in the first place.
