Anthrax profile

American heavy metal band

Anthrax Overview

Anthrax is a five-piece American metal band formed in 1981. The band's sole original member is rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Scott Ian. Anthrax rose to the top of the thrash metal pack in the '80s and is considered one of the 'Big Four' of thrash. The band released their debut album Fistful of Metal in 1984 with vocalist Neil Turbin. Joey Belladonna replaced Turbin later the same year. The band's two subsequent releases, Spreading the Disease (1985) and Among the Living (1987), remain bona fide metal classics to this day. Anthrax have released 10 studio albums and sold 10 million records worldwide. After leaving in 1991, Belladonna returned to the band permanently in 2010 and has contributed to two recent album recordings.
