Romano equates the poetry that draws upon the idea of mankind’s fall, as described in western religions, with darkness that serves to imprison the human spirit in an empty shell. There is a rebellion going on here, however. Miram, the sister of Moses, whose name literallly translates to “rebellion” is invoked and he pleads and promises to “not be denied” by this darkness. There is an irony at work here though, as Romano’s plaintiff in the song, in his invocation of Miran, is seemingly bound to the same myths which the “mirror poets relied upon to “cast the sunshine into shade” and to create the empty husk (to render the monarch a reproduction - a reference to the iconography of the idea of Jesus perhaps, and the saintly diadem, worthless trappings of the church and the living thing of the word reduced to liturgy and meaningless symbol ).
