Thoughts & Meanings

Judas cover Judas by Lady Gaga

I have had a love-hate relationship with this song. It is extremely catchy, but it feels morally wrong at the surface. The more I think about it, the more I believe this is about a woman who loves the wrong type of man. She wants to love a good man and be a good person, but she has fallen in love with an evil person. This is not the love that can build a house - it is the love that sinks a dead body. It is a song about self-destruction. I also think that Lady Gaga may have written this to be controversial.

Payphone cover Payphone by Maroon 5 ft. Wiz Khalifa

I often think about why this about a payphone. In today's world, no one uses them, and I think that is the point of the song. Adam is singing about the past when he was at a payphone trying to get this girl to stay with him, but it didn't work. Now, he is successful and has changed his number (probably to his cell phone) so that she can't even call him. Yet, in his memory, there is still a part of him at that payphone remembering how much was wasted on a relationship that went wrong.

Masterpiece cover Masterpiece by Jessie J

This is a great song about a woman's independent spirit and her willingness to accept failure at times because she is working to become the best version of herself. You can see her independent spirit when she talks about walking alone and how she doesn't mind those that don't matter. She walks her own path and looks good while she is walking on it. She is ambitious but forgives herself when things don't always work out well. This song is great to listen to when you need inspiration to keep chasing your dreams.

Elastic Heart cover Elastic Heart by Sia

This song is great to listen to after a break-up. It is a story of a woman’s fight for survival as she tries to find a love that will last. She has thick skin, which mean she can handle a lot of problems in a relationship. She also has an elastic heart, which I think means that she can adjust to her loved one. The issue that keeps coming up is that her loved ones keep pushing her to her breaking point. You can see that when she mentions that they pull too hard and that their blade is too sharp. She tries to make it clear that she can and will break after a certain point, and then after that, she will be gone forever. They will never see her move again, because she will be out of their lives.
