I have read a lot about the meaning of this song having something to do with romantic relationships. I don’t think that is correct. Mr. Gibbard is an artist. I believe that this song is about his relationship with music. Personally, I think that Ben’s relationship with music is much better than he portrays in the song, but I understand the frustration.
