the ballad of boxcar joe Lyrics

In the Arizona Desert lived a man named Boxcar Joe
Never meant no harm to no one, not a dime had he to show
Forty-thousand miles there and forty-thousand miles back
On his way to see his woman when the magic man attacked
The man appeared unarmed, he had no knife or gun in sight
But he muttered mystic words and conjured forth a purple light
Boxcar tried to hold his ground but he found he could not win
When the magic portal opened, Boxcar Joe would fall right in
Boxcar Joe lay still in silence, a new dimension at his feet
A bearded wizard stood before him, though quite wrinkled, old and weak
He said, "Joe I'm gonna show you all the things you don't understand
So you can face the evil warlock and make your final stand"
After learning from the wizard, Boxcar's training was complete
They had found the evil warlock, it was time for them to meet
It was high noon in El Paso, it was high noon in Shanghai
Joe had finally returned from dimension twenty-five
The magic man was shocked but then a smirk showed on his face
His hands fell down beside his hips, he'd put this bastard in his place
He had fought the wizard once and he'd put the man to shame
Boxcar Joe was just a casualty, his fate would be the same
The two men stood at the ready in the center of the town
There were twenty-seven witnesses who gathered all around
The warlock cast an evil hex, but he was a smidge too late
Boxcar Joe had cast a fowler one and sealed the warlock's fate
The warlock disappeared leaving Boxcar all alone
As he sank into the ground, he was turning into stone
From the crowd a woman rushed out and said she loved him so
And true love cured the curse and left the myth of Boxcar Joe
